Broken Laws

Award-winning storyteller and historian Glenn Tkach, creator of The Really Gay History Tour, presents Broken Laws, a compelling exploration of how queer lives were criminalized in 20th-century Canada and how communities fought back.

Through archival research, court records, and oral histories, Glenn uncovers the human cost of legal tools such as “gross indecency” and “criminal sexual psychopath” classifications. From early 20th-century policing of gender expression to landmark cases like George Klippert’s, Broken Laws reveals the hidden struggle between law and the human spirit.

The event also supports the Tom Carter Recovery Fund. Tom Carter, a beloved local historian and artist, has long contributed to Vancouver’s history community, sharing knowledge and mentoring others. Following a recent medical emergency, this fundraiser allows the community to give back.
