VIFF Live: Cassidy Waring + Hearse Chasing

Cassidy Waring is a queer Vancouver-based artist who transforms her struggles into raw, indie folk songs that resonate with uncompromising honesty, sharp wit, and vivid storytelling. Her new album, If I Had Only Been Better, delves deeper into her experience with complex trauma. Cassidy is also the subject of the new mid-length documentary Hearse Chasing, by Teresa Alfeld (Doug and the Slugs and Me; The Rankin File: Legacy of a Radical). The film follows Cassidy as she returns to her childhood home in Calgary with her younger brother to excavate and understand their past.

In this special Mother's Day VIFF Live event, VIFF will screen Teresa's film (43 mins) followed by a short Q&A and intermission, finished off with a live performance from Cassidy and her band.

Where: VIFF Centre, 1181 Seymour Street

When: May 10, 2026 at 7:30pm

Tickets: Available at viff.org

We believe that film has a unique ability to celebrate the complexity of the human condition and that it is our responsibility to steward that power toward creating meaningful change in our world. Founded in 1982, The Greater Vancouver International Film Festival Society is a not-for-profit cultural organization that operates the internationally acclaimed Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) and the year-round programming of the theatres at the VIFF Centre.
