Just the 2 of Us

Just the 2 of Us is a celebration of Joëlle and Buwa's favourite music spanning six decades and a half a dozen genres; from Édith Piaf and Shirley Bassey; to Aretha Franklin and Etta James; from Elton John to Whitney Houston; from iconic Broadway hits to pure Canadiana and beyond. Though nostalgia abounds, Joëlle & Buwa interpret each song through the lens of their diverse experiences, breathing fresh life and vitality into timeless classic melodies and immortal songs. Humour, engaging banter from the nostalgic playful to the edgy risqué is always on the menu with these two singers. 

Joëlle Rabu is a Canadian performer, two-time Jessie Award winner and Juno nominee, having won international critical acclaim for her theatrical portrayal of the Parisian chanteuse, Edith Piaf, the iconic singer whose recordings were heard throughout Joëlle’s French upbringing. With a music career spanning over 4 decades, 8 independent recordings, and numerous arts awards, Joëlle has toured throughout 5 continents and garnered international accolades for her torch singing style and engaging stage presence. She has starred in numerous theatre productions and has made many guest appearances with major symphony orchestras across Canada and the USA. Well-known for her ability to delve into myriad musical styles and several languages, Joëlle’s interpretation of classic European cabaret-style tunes, jazz melodies, heart wrenching torch songs combined with her humour and engaging stage presence, Joëlle has left audiences spellbound.

Buwa is a Nigerian performer, based in British Columbia and an emerging artist you want to keep on your radar. Drawing influences from the late Whitney Houston, as well as Jill Scott, India Arie, Billy Porter, and Brenda Fassie - Buwa is an exciting contemporary soul artist, with pop and R&B sensibilities and a penchant for storytelling, for whom, music has always played a prominent place.  Recognized for his infectious melodies, his versatile voice and captivating song writing, Buwa has released two EPs: Olu [2019] and Road Signs [2016], along with a handful of captivating singles. He uses his music and talents to change the way the world sees Africa. 

This past summer Buwa was the star of Kinky Boots in Qualicum, BC. He loves musical theatre and is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
