DanceHouse and The Cultch Present Recirquel’s Paradisum

DanceHouse and The Cultch Present

North American Premiere of
Recirquel’s Otherworldly Paradisum

Recirquel’s Paradisum transforms the ruins of a fallen world into a breathtaking fusion of dance, circus, and myth. Presented by DanceHouse and The Cultch, this haunting spectacle invites audiences to witness beauty rising from chaos.

DanceHouse and The Cultch will present the North American premiere of Paradisum by Hungarian cirque dance company Recirquel from January 21–24 at the Vancouver Playhouse. Directed by Artistic Director Bence Vági, the production merges circus, contemporary dance, and physical theatre to explore rebirth and connection in a fractured world. Set to a striking score by Edina Szirtes, six performers inhabit a post-apocalyptic landscape where simple stage elements—like a black drape, ladder, and aerial apparatus—are transformed into living symbols. Premiered at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the piece has been praised for its breathtaking physicality and emotional intensity, unfolding as a work of visual and kinetic poetry.

Founded in Budapest in 2012, Recirquel has earned an international reputation for blending the precision of dance with the spectacle of circus. With Paradisum, the company continues its tradition of immersive storytelling that reflects both beauty and resilience. Following its Vancouver debut, the production will tour to Québec City, Montréal, and Toronto. The performance is recommended for ages 12 and up and features strobe lighting.
