Trans Joy: Community Social

 

The trans community is invited to celebrate an evening at the library that is dedicated to holding space to honour and recognize transgender and gender nonconforming people while acknowledging their contributions to society.

Join in on fun activities including a mini speed friending event, a private film screening of Shinjuku Boys: Tales of Transgender Men in Japan, pronoun button making, a stretch session and play with circus toys, as well as 
a special screening of the short film Becoming Ruby, all to help raise awareness of the resiliency of transgender and gender nonconforming people.

Becoming Ruby is a film where we follow Ruby Chopstix, Canada’s first drag artist-in-residence, as they navigate the complexity of being an underrepresented drag performer while creating a special showcase to create space for other queer BIPOC performers.

Shinjuku Boys is a 1995 film by Kim Longinotto and Jano Williams. It explores the lives of three transgender men who work at the New Marilyn Club in Tokyo, Japan.
