Community-Led Creativity Takes Center Stage at the 2026 Eastside Arts Festival

Vancouver’s Eastside Arts District holds the highest density of working artists per capita in Canada, making it a critical anchor for local creative production and community resilience. Returning for its sixth edition from July 17 to 26, 2026, the Eastside Arts Festival brings an expanded lineup of artist-led workshops, neighborhood walking tours, and open-air performances directly into local parks, studios, and neighborhood hubs.

Produced by the Eastside Arts Society—the organization behind the annual Eastside Culture Crawl—this ten-day summer festival focuses on direct engagement between working artists and the public. For our 2SLGBTQiA+ community, these decentralized creative hubs offer intentional spaces to connect, support local makers, and celebrate self-expression free from discrimination.

Record-Breaking Artist Workshops and Neighborhood Tours

The 2026 programming features the largest selection of hands-on workshops and walking tours in the festival's history.

Artist-Led Walking Tours: Expanded route options move through Chinatown, Strathcona, and Commercial Drive. Guided themes include dedicated public art walks, neighborhood heritage routes, photography tours, and soundwalking—an active listening experience centering the distinct acoustic environments of urban spaces.

Hands-on Studio Sessions: Affordable artist-led workshops cover specialized disciplines including porcelain slip casting, glass frit fusing, potted plant portrait painting, indigo dyeing, and textile printmaking.

Decentralized Venues: Activities take place directly within the workspace environments of the Eastside Arts District, including neighborhood studios, Strathcona Park, and local venues like Luppolo Brewing Co., East Van Brewing Company, Superflux Beer Company, and Odd Society Spirits. These shared spaces provide a valuable platform for local creators, including 2SLGBTQiA+ artists, to share their work.

A Day of Free Art and Live Music at MacLean Park

The festival's signature free outdoor celebration takes place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at MacLean Park (710 Keefer Street). Programmed in collaboration with the Rickshaw Theatre and presented by the Strathcona BIA, the block party brings neighborhood performance and public space together.

Live Music Stage: Mainstage performances feature a curated roster of local independent talent, including DJ Jody Glenham, Big Rig, Stephen Hamm: Theremin Man, Wack, and Buddie.

Public Art Activities: Accessible, all-ages collaborative art projects fill the park, including a community collage workshop led by Enabling Arts, a kid-friendly workspace run by the Writer's Exchange, and recycled-material art projects with Alternative Creations Studio.

Park Amenities: The outdoor site includes a Strange Fellows Brewing beer garden, local food trucks (including Chickpea, Dos Amigos, Midnight Joe's, and Stik Pop), and a dedicated on-site Art Shop highlighting local independent makers.

Additional Co-Presentations

The festival weekend also features localized performance collaborations across the neighborhood:

The Dance Deck: A specialized outdoor summer movement series presented in partnership with Belle Spirale Dance Projects, running July 18, 19, 25, and 26.

MacLean Park Music: A continuous afternoon of free outdoor acoustic performances on Sunday, July 26, featuring Mizz Lisa, Lyndsay Wills & the No Frills String Band, and Sinéad X Sanders.
