Vancouver Fringe Festival Returns to Granville Island with Diverse Independent Performing Arts
The Vancouver Fringe Festival is an annual non-curated performing arts festival where artists are selected by lottery, helping reduce barriers for independent performers. This year’s festival returns to Granville Island and beyond for 11 days, from September 10 to 20, 2026.
The theme, Every Kind of Everything, reflects a season of over 80 shows by artists from around the world, two days of free Kids Fringe programming for children and families, and the return of the all-ages Fringe Patio with free nightly music and entertainment beginning Labour Day weekend from September 5-7.
Alongside two days of free Kids Fringe programming for families and free nightly live music at the Fringe Patio starting Labour Day weekend (September 5–7), the festival highlights performance pieces with stories, themes, and artists representing the 2SLGBTQiA+ community.
Queering the Vancouver Fringe 2026
The lottery-based selection brings a range of 2SLGBTQiA+ storytelling, burlesque, and independent theatre to local stages. Featured performances include:
Daddy Bear & Man P*ssy (Lucyboo Productions) – An independent theatrical work centering gay and queer masculine identities and themes.
The Trouble with My Hair: Coloring, Cutting, and Coming into Who I Am (Ada Cheng) – A solo performance examining identity, personal transformation, and self-acceptance.
The Guys I F*cked (Explosive Lieutenant Productions) – A bold narrative performance addressing modern sexuality, dating, and intimacy.
Hi I'm Phoenix HellFire! (Dahlia-Raphael Kerr and Alivia Sabatino) - A solo theatrical narrative blending storytelling, lip-sync, and stage performance. The story follows a character navigating 2SLGBTQiA+ identity, personal growth, and self-acceptance with the guidance of a drag persona.
Fashionably Late (Savannah Erasmus) - Solo stand-up comedy performance by Indigenous comedian Savannah Erasmus addressing identity, culture, and dating.
The Fringe Patio
The Fringe Patio functions as the central outdoor gathering venue for the Vancouver Fringe Festival, situated on Granville Island. Operating as an all-ages space, the venue features FREE nightly live music and community programming.
1531 Johnston Street, Vancouver, BC. Positioned outdoors directly in front of the Picnic Pavilion on Granville Island, located adjacent to the duck pond near the island's entrance.

Drag Open Mic (Hosted by Mx Bukuru) takes place at the Fringe Patio on September 15, 2026, beginning at 8:00 PM. An open-stage evening highlighting local 2SLGBTQiA+ drag artists and community talent outdoors at the Fringe Patio.
Fringe Patio Music Series – Parlour Panther. Local indie-pop duo Parlour Panther performs live as part of the Fringe Patio's free outdoor music programming. September 5, 2026 at 8:00 PM
